Spring Break is just on the horizon for most Denver Metro school districts and now is the time to start plotting exactly what you might do to keep your little rascals busy and to keep your sanity in tact! There are many family friendly activities in our neighborhoods-both familiar and new-to-you to choose from.
Museums:
100 W. 14th Ave. Pkwy.
Kids visit for free and check out daily activities such as coloring and building in the Just for Fun Center and Kids Corner, to weekend activities Backpacks & Art Tube to Create-n-Takes.
2121 Children’s Museum Dr.
It’s all about kid-powered learning here and their one-of-a-kind exhibits open doors for young minds to create, discover and explore on their own terms. This museum was recently renovated and worth checking it out even if you have been here before.
The Museum of Nature and Science
2001 Colorado Blvd
What is not to like about this museum? In addition to their classic and permanent exhibits that are always popular for kids (think dinosaurs) this is a one-stop shop for the planetarium and IMAX theatre as well. The new exhibit, Vikings; Beyond the Legend opens on March 10 and the Kids Discovery Zone never gets old for little kids ages 2-5. A bonus at this museum- the T-Rex Café, Grab & Go Deli and 2nd floor coffee bar ensuring that there are no hungry-kid break downs and that mom and dad stay well caffeinated.
Get Outside:
Denver Skate Park
20th St. & Little Raven St.
Denver Skate Park is one of the largest and most renowned skate parks in the country - is filled with bowls for all levels of skating skill. Admission is free. Helmets are required.
16831 W. Alameda Pkwy, Morrison
Get hands on looking for Jurassic dinosaur bones such as Stegosaurus that roamed the Front Range millions of years ago. Enjoy a free, self guided tour that includes 16 stops that describe the fossil remains and other interesting features of the area.
The 16th Street Mall
On this family adventure you will enjoy the sights, sounds, culture, good eats and the free mall ride. Spend an afternoon cruising the mall, popping in an out of stores and go ahead and let your kids “play” their hearts out on the public pianos found up and down the mall.
Do Something New:
Hammonds Candy Factory
5735 N. Washington St.
Anyone with even the smallest sweet tooth will love this free tour, which gets you behind the scenes at Hammond's, a company that has been making candy in Denver since 1920. You'll come away with a newfound respect for the candy industry, plenty of free samples - and maybe a cavity or two.

Just 30 miles outside of Denver this 720-acre rescue and educational facility is home to more than 450 large carnivores that roam freely and are visible from an elevated walk way. Check out their lions, tigers, bears and wolves in their natural environments. Don’t leave without visiting Eddy the Black Leopard, a rare species of leopard who was featured on Animal Planet TV.

Tiny Tots Inside the Orchestra is not your mamma’s orchestra experience. Get a unique view of an orchestra performance by sitting on floor surrounded by a 30+ piece orchestra. The conductor faces the audience and talks to the audience directly asking questions and teaching your kids about the music as it plays around them. Buy your tickets in advance as shows typically book up early.
