5 Ways to Decorate Your Home on a Budget

As you know, buying a house can be a little pricey and a little overwhelming. After it’s all said and done, you have the house you’ve always wanted- hopefully- and the only thing left to do is to turn that house into a home. This, too, can get a little pricey.

The last thing you want to do or even think about after putting up a down payment along with closing costs and such is how much it’s going to cost to decorate. If you’re budget is a little tight, don’t worry. Here are 5 things you can do to make your home a cozy one.

Paint the walls yourself. This is fairly easy and could be relaxing. There’s no need to hire professional painters. Just decide which color or colors you want to paint each room then head on over to the store to purchase your materials.

You can even throw a painting party and invite a couple of your close friends or relatives to come help. Put on your painting gear, crank up the radio, and get started!

Shop for rugs on sale. Rugs can get pretty expensive, but they are very nice additions to the home. The good news is you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on them if you don’t have the funds to. Browse the clearance section either in store or online. You’re sure to come up with something.

Browse the flea markets. The flea market can be an amazing place to find a lot of good stuff for a low price. They have a variety of new and used items.

If you’re into it, you could purchase an old item and make it new by touching it up with paint and decorations. Nothing makes a home yours like personalization.

Online shop on sites such as eBay, Overstock, or Amazon. These are more great places to search for new and used items for a fair price. Plus, they have just about EVERYTHING you’re looking for.

Before you buy something from the store, search here and see if you can save some money. The only downfall is waiting for shipping, but if it saves you a few bucks, why not?

Use wall decals. This is about the simplest way to add that extra touch of “home” to your house. Plus, they’re dirt cheap- you can purchase them at the dollar store or just about anywhere they sell home decor.

They typically come in different designs such as swirls or butterflies and have words such as “Family” and “Love.” You can find some for kid’s rooms too specified to gender.

Don’t worry, even though they stick to the wall, they’re pretty easy going on the paint and won’t do any damage.

A little side note:

Don’t get overwhelmed by trying to put your home together all at once. A little something here and there will do just fine and over time it will all come together. Know what you have to spend and be kind to your budget.

I’m curious- what’s that one thing you HAVE TO HAVE in your house to make it feel like a home?
